To celebrate the DM and IE we had to have a party. Elias was put in charge of organizing that. When we came back to the dive shop, while he was washing his gear the other people just disappeared, so there was just Elias and I left.
Vlad had his sister and mom visiting, so he didn't know if he could really join. Oh well, we know how to party pretty good anyway, so we got the snorkel with the funnel, went to 7-11 to find some liquid poison we could pour into this device. Nothing gasy as it would be difficult to drink too much. We decided on some icetea with Barcardi Rum, didn't sound too bad.
We went to visit Miska and Vlad as they stayed in the same hotel, but it turned out that Vlad was already somewhere else in town with his family. Miska was in his room and never drank alcohol. Oh well, again on our own.
Instructor Jansson was first and after a few heavy breaths, he was ready to do the snorkel test. One liter of icetea and Barcardi mixed 50-50, enjoy. It didn't take the skinny Swede long to suck that juice down and he looked relatively ok afterwards, except he had grown a stomach the size of a woman who is 3 months pregnant. Then it was Instructor Poulsen's turn and after a few seconds I was ready too. This stuff tasted terribly, it was super sweet both from the Barcardi and especially the icetea - with just a mouthfull or two left, the stomach didn't want anymore and I had to give up.
We were supposed to be celebrating with all the other instructors, that's usually what happens, but instead it became just another night out. At the bad that night I finally got hold of some local snacks for Elias to try.
The surprise was huge when I saw what the girls had bought for us, these were super sized bugs, big grasshoppers. I had tried the smaller ones before, but these were the size of a thumb! We got instructed to remove the legs before eating them, otherwise they might get stuck in our throats, haha. Believe it or not, being cooked in chili oil, makes the buggers taste like spicy chili chips.
Congrats dude! It's good that it's done! :)
ReplyDeleteI think Mermaids in Pattaya (Jomtien) was better choice, at least there was 2 Platinum Course Directors and really fun group to study (and party) with. :)
